Enough To Make You Swoon

That’s exactly what you’ll get at McCoole’s Red Lion Inn. The only thing that would’ve made this a more perfect evening was if everyone was adorned in period clothing. What a treat it would’ve been to see women outfitted in feather headbands, drop waist flapper dresses and men in three piece suits and fedoras. You know, back when there existed such a thing as modesty and class. The backdrop, a magnificent inn, rich in it’s own history dating back to it’s founding in the 1750’s, provided a perfect setting for a trip back in time this Valentine’s Day. The front door became a portal, a means to transport oneself to a simpler time such as the roaring 20’s. Not only was it stunning to the eyes, it was music to the ears, literally. Tucked in the martini lounge, the entertainment for the evening, the Michael Arenella Duo played the most romantic swing and jazz with musical stylings reminiscent of jazz trombonist Chris Barber accompanied by an amplified blues guitar in what sounded like Abbey Hall Studios. The acoustics were brilliant, the melodies drew you in like a magnet. Upon walking to our table, we were surrounded by couples so taken by the music they started twirling their partners into a warm embrace and dancing them around the dining room floor. The only thing missing was the faint smell of a cherry pipe lingering in the distance. The evening drink specials on the other hand were the highlight of the experience, although to be fair I’m rather partial to anything with muddled fruit. Festively for Valentine’s day, that fruit was beautifully ripened red raspberry.

While often I will dissect the meal and provide a long winded review, I will refrain. I wanted to keep this review short and succinct. I would highly recommend this place to any historian, truly a must see! And I’d certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic evening, the atmosphere and the live music will leave you spellbound and the food and beverages will surely delight. Service was warm and inviting. Their kitchen sources local and is GMO Free. Check their Facebook page for updates on upcoming events and menu changes prior to your visit. I’d strongly recommend a reservation, and the earlier the better. They were running out of popular items on the menu by 8 p.m. (albeit, it was Valentine’s weekend) Stop in and experience the elegance for yourself.
